CRMC voice will be heard at leading international conference

THE experiences of refugees and migrants in Coventry will be highlighted at a major international conference in Istanbul, Turkey.

CRMC Director Sabir Zazai has been asked to speak at the sixth Istanbul Human Security Conference which will explore the human security implications of the refugee crisis. Leading academics will be evaluating current policies and discussing potential solutions.

Sabir will be speaking on day two of the conference, about the role of non-governmental and community-led organizations in creating a welcome for refugees in the UK.

Sabir said: “This is an exciting opportunity, and one that highlights the growing reputation of the important work we do right here in Coventry. I will be keen to learn about other practices and promote the amazing response of my adopted home at this high-profile gathering.”

The conference is a collaboration between the United Nations Human Security Unit, Kadir Has University in Istanbul, and Coventry University’s Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations (CTPSR).

The keynote speakers will be Prof Heaven Crawley from the CTPSR, and Prof Mine Eder of Bogazici University, also in Istanbul. Among the other speakers will be leading academics from universities in Bern in Switzerland, Turin, Texas, and London.
